Edwin Victoria writes the following about Guts :
This is a nonfiction book about Gary Paulsen. The book, Guts by Gary Paulsen is a great novel for people who like the outdoors. Ever since Gary Paulsen was young, he has had a lot of experiences with nature, ranging from crashing in a plane, to bringing home a deer easily twice the size of himself. He has had a love for nature & as well as a respect for nature. He learned at a fairly young age the ways of the woods All of these things he incorporated into Hatchet & the Brian?s books (The River, Brian's Winter & Brian?s Return). It is a collection of true experiences of Gary Paulsen that inspired his novel Hatchet. The setting is the wilderness of Alaska, Minnesota & Canada. I think it was used effectively because it gave good descriptions of the wilderness & environment. The book also told me how to survive in the wilderness by killing his own food, making fires to stay alive & eating the guts of game he killed just to keep from starving. The final thing I learn about the book is point of view of Gary Paulsen, is hard person; Gary Paulsen is the narrator & tells of his experiences.
