Emily writes the following about Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry :
The books Roll of Thunder hear my Cry was basically about segration to blacks. The main character Cassie was a strong, noble girl who could not always understand why people treat others the way they do. The Logan kids soon learn to handle the life they live in this racist community. However not always in the best way. As this strong, intelligent family takes action people notice. Which in some cases this is good, but in other cases very bad.
I enjoyed the learning experience I got from this book. It taught me that even long after the civil was that African Americans were treated badly. Also this made me look at things in different ways. I also liked the clever tricks the Logan?s played on their enemies. I disliked the cruelty African Americans had. Also I disliked losing a good friend at the end of the book. However it is good to know that we have created a better life for African Americans.
