Hilde writes the following about Over Sea, Under Stone :
The book Over Sea, Under Stone starts with the Simon, Jane, and Barney. They are on holiday in Cornwall, staying in a home that was rented by their Great-Uncle Merry. On a rainy day, while exploring, the children find a manuscript hidden within the house. The children confide to Great-Uncle Merry, who tells them that it leads to a grail and an even older manuscript, but that the Dark is after it as well. Throughout the book, the children solve the clues leading to the grail, with the Dark always hot on their trail. They recover the grail, but the manuscript accompanying it is lost at sea during a struggle with the Dark. The Drews prevail, and the grail is put on display at a prestigious museum, but the fight is not over yet. The Dark is hiding, but the siblings know that it will be back. I liked that the book had a unique plot. It was full of unexpected twists, and breathtakingly exciting. I also enjoyed how Susan Cooper made the characters seem so real, pure and yet with faults. I did not appreciate how everything was described so much. I thought Jane was a little too girly for my taste, but it did give the book a bit of diversity. Altogether, this is a book I would definitely recommend.
