Kiara writes the following about The Watsons Go to Birmingham--1963 (Newbery Honor Book, 1996, No 2) :
My favorite book is The Watson's go to Birmingham-1963 by Christopher Paul Curtis. I chose this book as my favorite book because there are such amazing characters. This the absolute best book for me by far. What I like about this book is the Watson family. They are known as the "Weird Watsons," in Flint, Michigan. They were raised by their mother and father Their mother was the only who was not born in Flint, Michigan.

My favorite part is in the winter, Byron(the big brother), kissed the car mirror and his lips got stuck. Just like the time when I got my lips stuck on ice and I ripped it off with horror. When Byron's mom ripped his lips off, his lips were very bloody. This book has very interesting characters. This is not a challenging book, but it's just right and interesting. It is also historical fiction.

This book also has great messeging such as, following directions. Byron wasn't so good at following directions. Another thing is that signs are important anywhere and everywhere. The middle child Kenneth almost died not taking action to signs. It might be a little about civil rights and or segregation in 1963. Most of all,it is about the importance of family.

It is a great book to learn a little about history an at the same time funny in some parts. I highly recommend this book also because of all its characters. It all stands out when being read. It is a recommended book and the best I've read by far. I hope to find another book just as good as this book. I really hope the you enjoyed this entry/ book review.
