Ezperanza is a rich girl who lives in Aguascalienties, Mexico on her father?s ranch called El Rancho de las Rosas, and she lives with her mom, dad, and Abuelita. Ezperanza has been spoiled ever since she live on El Rancho de las Rosas. Her lifestyle is wonderful parties every night, beautiful dresses, servants, Hortensia, Alfonso, and their son Miguel who was Ezperanza?s age, and a lovely house. But all that changes when robbers kill her father, she is heart-broken. Soon her Tio Luis asks her mother to marry him, and she answers ?NO?. Then Tio Luis burns down their house while they?re in it; they?re panicking to get out. When they wakeup Ezperanza she turn and grabs one of the dolls her father gave her every birthday, and Abuelita takes the blanket she?s been crocheting. When the house is completely destroyed. So her mother is forced to move to California or marry Tio Luis. Soon after dark they went to the boarder and took a train to California. They met the Alfonso?s family and went back to a little cabin, with two rooms, a little kitchen, and no hot water.
My favorite part in the book is when Ezperanza sees her grandma for the first time in a year; she thinks it?s a ghost. As soon as she sees her she hugs her. Ezperanza can?t wait to see mama?s expression on her face when she sees Abuelita. When Abuelita looks at mama she is very happy. Then Ezperanza runs back to the cabin to get the blanket her Abuelita told her to finish crocheting. She is almost finished.
I would recommend this book to a friend because it?s a heart-warming story. It tells a struggle of a young girl?s life that she really had to go through and obstacles she had to face.
