kevin writes the following about Holes [UNABRIDGED] :
How would you like it if your whole family was cursed with bad luck? If everything you attempted failed because of a ?no good- dirty rotten- pig stealin? great great grandfather?? In the book Holes by Louis Sachar, Stanley Yelnats has this such ?great? luck and eventually his bad luck lands him at a boot camp called ?Camp Green Lake?.
At the beginning, Stanley Yelnates is accused of stealing a pair of sneakers that was going to be suctioned off for the needy and had a choice of going to prison or Camp Green Lake. There, they had to dig holes five feet deep by five feet wide in the middle of the desert to ?build character?. Stanley meets some interesting people and supervisors at camp. They all help Stanley settle down, but Stanley has a harder time anyway considering his over weight size. The plot ot this story is so interesting, it grabbed my attention from the start.
The characters are equally as great as the plot and very interesting to read about. They have such interesting names such as Zero, Zig- Zag, X- Ray and Stanleys nickname: Caveman. Stanley and Zero become great friends, and help each other along the way. The characters made the book interesting, and they were never predictable.
This book is one of my favorites, with awesome foreshadowing and great flashbacks to lead up to the final end of the story. Aver all, the book was very worth while reading and I recommend this book for any reader. Holes was extremely cleverly written out with great twists, it?s almost hard to believe this book.
