Brad writes the following about Hatchet [UNABRIDGED] :

Hey would you like to be stranded out in the middle of nowhere with no food or supplies, and have to survive all alone? Well, in the book Hatchet by Gary Paulsen Brain the main character, has this happen and tries to survive until help comes.
Brain?s life was all good until his plane went off course and crashed. It was a wood-filled area with a lake near by. He had to survive until help came, so he built a home to stay in. He made fish traps, made arrows, and other useful stuff. He also went into a sunken plane to find a survival packet.
Brian is a brave, smart, daring person because of the setting of the story. I think he brave because he went up to a moose, and he's smart because he made arrows and fish traps. Daring because he went into a sunken plane to find a survival packet. Brain has a lot of survival skills. If he would have acted differently he probably would have died.
With that I will have to say Brian is a very brave man. He went up to a moose, shot birds with arrows, and lived in a little home with sometimes no fire. So, if you like a book with suspense and things that make you guess ahead to see what you think is going to happen next, I would read Hatchet by Gary Paulsen.
