Matthew?s father, Ross Morgan, discovered that the piece of native copper given by the Eskimo probably wasn?t found at the place it originally came from. By looking at the aerial photographs, he realised that a glacier had melted, causing the copper to drift further south. That meant that a big amount of copper was at the base of one of the cliffs. Matthew?s father was overjoyed! He didn?t even bother waiting for the storm to pass the next morning. Since he was afraid that Charlie might tell others his discovery, he decided to tell the Australian pilot when they set off. But before they left, Charlie had told the tower their original flight plan. The two men got lost in the nasty storm and the flight co-ordinations used by the Air Force Search didn?t help. Matthew?s father had warned his son, telling him not to tell anyone where Charlie and he went. Other miners could get a hold of their flight plan and get the copper for themselves. Matthew decided to go and find his father with Kayak, his Inuit friend...
If I were to recommend this book, I?d probably recommend it to someone who has past adventures in the North. I don?t think I?d recommend this book to someone my age. Since the book was first published in 1986 and must have been written much longer before that, I don?t think the context of this book would suit the interests of one of my fellow classmates.
