adam anderson writes the following about The Watsons Go to Birmingham--1963 (Newbery Honor Book, 1996, No 2) :
I didn't like this book very much at all. The book had some funny parts but that was the only good thing about it. It wasn't very interesting. The plotline was very slow. They talked about going to birmingham for like three chapters before they even left. I did think it was good that they historical facts in the book. The book would have been better if there were more facts about the civil rights movenent.
