Myranda Brown writes the following about The Watsons Go to Birmingham--1963 (Newbery Honor Book, 1996, No 2) :
In the book The Watsons Go to Birmingham - 1963, Byron gets into trouble and has to go live with his grandmother in Birmingham, Alabama. The rest of his family goes with him to see their grandmother/mother. But during their visit somebody drops a bomb at the church where Joey is having Sunday school. After the bomb goes off the "weird" Watsons (including Byron) go back home.

I think that this book would be a good book for children 10 to 14.
