Kiwi writes the following about The Lovely Bones :
Alice Sebold?s the Lovely Bones is one of the best novels I?ve ever read. It is extremely realistic and very touching. You see how the Salmon family learns to cope with a tragedy of a loved one. The story is about 14- year old, free spirited Susie Salmon who gets raped and murdered by her neighbor. He lures her into an underground hideout, makes her feel comfortable, the nightmare begins. It is a story told in Heaven and on Earth. Susie Salmon watches her family go through a crisis, grow up, and change. It takes place all throughout the 1970?s in a small town in Philadelphia. Each chapter is completely different than the last. Reading this book you will definitely get a tear out of it. It?s the most realistic drama I?ve ever read. I would rate this book a 9 out of 10 because the storyline is so real and it?s just how a family would act in a situation like that. I would recommend this book to people ages 12 and older because it has some inappropriate scenes and language. I enjoyed how there was an extra chapter called bones that told how their life was years later. If I could make a suggestion, I would make some of the sentences short and to the point because sometimes I would get lost and confused. Also, some of the words were so long and complicated. The author?s message is that life will go on without you but your friends and family will never forget you. The text features I enjoyed were the different shades of blue on the cover because it is easy to spot in a library or a bookstore. I think this book is like Vicky Angel by Jaqueline Wilson because in both books, they both have someone they love die, and you get to hear their story from the living side and the deceased. I think this book is one of the top five greatest books because you will surely feel like you?re in the book. It will change you?re perspective about ?nice? neighbors!
