Cherry writes the following about The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants :
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is the very best book I have ever read. It relates so closely to the emotions of teenage girls. This book includes drama, humor, and courage, oh, and of course, the importance of friendship. I think that this is one book that everyone can enjoy (although I think girls would like it the most).
In the beginning of the book, four friends are about to experience their first summer apart since they were babies. Carmen?s going to her dads, Bridget is going to a soccer camp in Baja, Lena is going to Greece and Tibby is stuck at home. Before they leave, Tibby (the one who could always come up with an insult or talk saucy to anyone) found a pair of pants at a thrift store just to spite Lena?s mom (she hates the thought of wearing second hand clothes). They fit each of the friends, Bridget, Tibby, Lena, and Carmen, perfectly. The pants were dubbed magical due to their versatility to the figures of the friends. Each friend would have them two times during the summer, living their own story in them. When the girls are as far apart as can be, drama breaks out for each of them and they board an emotional rollercoaster. There are things that seem they can?t be fixed, but there is still hope in the threads of their friendship.
I would most definitely give this book 10 out of 10. It has you riding along, feeling every piece of pain and happiness from start to finish. The author grabs you and won?t let go until you know the story, and the description was amazing. The only comparison to this book is What My Mother Doesn?t Know. They both are astounding books that relate to the feelings of teenage girls. I wish that they would have explained more on Bridget?s part but I think that there is a reason for not going into detail. The theme of this book is that Friendship prevails. When you see the cover of the book you want to read it, that?s what happened to me. The picture of the pants makes it look so interesting, makes you curios to know why the story is about pants.
