Karon Cheek writes the following about The Watsons Go to Birmingham--1963 (Newbery Honor Book, 1996, No 2) :
The Watsons Go to Birmingham, by Christopher Paul Curtis, is one of my favorite books of all time. The author uses believable dialogue to make the characters seem real. I could see everything that was happening in my mind. I laughed out loud, and I cried. I highly recommend this book to both young adults and grownups.
