Morgan writes the following about Out of the Dust (Newbery Medal Book) :
This book is very well written. I often forgot I was reading a book, instead I thought I was in the book. This book is written in poetry format so it is a very quick read. The entire book is about this girl named Billie Joe as she grows up in the dust bowl. In the beginning of the book there is a terrible accident and Billie Joe thinks it's all her fault. As the story continues you see Billie Joe grieving over what happens. You get to see how Billie Joe's father reacts to this tragic accident. Throughout the entire book you see Billie Joe and her father growing closer to each other and learning to cope with the accident. I would highly recommend this book if you are looking for an easy historical fiction book. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did.
