Taisha writes the following about Ties That Bind, Ties That Break (Laurel-Leaf Books) :
I think this is a wonderful tale about a brave young girl who has to go through life without her foot bound. In her time, young girls would get their foot bound to look pretty, get married, and live a happy life. Ailin, this young girl, thinks that this practice is terribl and should stop. All you can do is hobble and read/eat. What a boring life. Yet, Ailin relizes, that without her feet bound, it's much worse. When her two people who support her die, she has no hope. She fears that she will have to either be a concubine, farmer's wife, or nun. She must find a way to live a different life, a better life. But this life comes at a price. She will be ripped from her family, culture, and friends. Will she ever live up to her dream?
