Stanley is a middle schooler whose father is an inventor, who is looking for a cure to solve foot odor. One day, while Stanley was walking home from school, a pair of shoes hits Stanley on the head. Thinking that it?s destiny, he begins running with the shoes in his hand. The shoes turn out to be Clyde Livingston?s, a famed baseball player, who had given them to a home shelter to be auctioned. Stanley was then arrested and accused of stealing the shoes and proved guilty, even though he was innocent. So Stanley was sent to Camp Green Lake.
Now at Camp Green Lake there is nothing green. There is no lake. It used to be a lake, but now it is a desert. Bad boys are sent to Camp Green Lake and made to dig holes 5 feet deep and five feet in diameter. If you make a bad boy dig holes in the hot sun he?ll turn into a good boy, that?s what some people thought.
Stanley is taken to Camp Green Lake in a bus. While getting off the bus the bus driver says, ?Be careful.? Stanley isn?t sure if he means be careful going down the bus steps are to be careful at Camp Green Lake. Stanley is then introduced to his counselor, Mr. Pendancekey. Stanley is in tent D with six other boys: X-Ray, Squid, Magnet, Armpit, and Zero, as the boys call themselves. Mr. Pendancekey, or Mom as the boys say, calls them Rex, Alan, Jose, Theodore, Ricky, and Zero. Zero either doesn?t have a name or doesn?t have a nickname.
Holes is definitely a great book. Stanley Yelnats has problems to face throughout the book. Holes is written in an easy to read format. Pieces slowly fall together, making the book interesting all the way through. You should certainly read this book.
