Sophie writes the following about noughts and crosses :
Callum is a white boy-a nought, Sephy is a dark skinned girl-a cross, the two races do not mix, the noughts are discriminated and abused by the noughts.
Sephy and Callum have been friends since birth. But things changed, and their parents disapprove of the two of them knowing each other, let alone being friends.

the two overcome unbeatable odds to be together.
this is a really touching book, definatley a must read.
