I sat here thinking long and hard about how to start of this book review. All that I could think of was WOW, and that even surprised me since I am not a big fan of reading. I was told by my grade 8 teacher that we had to do a book report so I set out to the school library where the librian recommened this and boy I am glad. It starts of with Maniac Magee moving to his aunt and uncles since his parents got killed in trolley car accident. From then on the story gets deep and can be hard to follow at times, so as good as this book is I wouldn't recommend it for anyone under the age of 10 unless at a high reading level. I would also not recommend reading it if you can't take the sadder parts when people get killed, and just to let you know now it's not just in the beginning. Once he lives with his aunt and uncles for a couple months he realizes the problem that they have with their marriage. He does something at his school concert that is in my opinion embarassing on his aunt and uncles part and quite unacceptable. After that little incident he is on the run staying with several differnt people and families. He teaches people how to get the most out of life and how to live life to the fullest. There is alos a sub-plot going on about learning. After reading this book I had alot of laughs and alot of teary moments. It really shows that we should not take anything for granted. That's all I have to say before I end up giving to much away.
