Erin (Rinny) writes the following about The Golden Compass (His Dark Materials, No 1) :
I picked up this book thinking it would be really good. It wasn't. The storyline was annoying, some of the time it made no sense at all. The main character, Lyra, was annoying too. I just didn't like her, and I couldn't identify with her. All in all, I would not reccomend this book, unless you are trying to learn how not to write. The only reason I didn't give it a 0 was because the begining was ok, and there was one action scene that was writen well. The cover illustration is better than the story.
