S. M. G. writes the following about The Watsons Go to Birmingham 1963 :
This book is about a weird family that has a mom, a dad, and three children. The children's names are Joetta the youngest, Kenny the middle and narrator, and Byron a sixth grade juvenile delinquent. Byron gets in a lot of trouble and the parents decide to go to Birmingham, Alabama, where the mother was born. They decide to let Byron stay in Alabama with the mean grandmother. This trip to Alabama will change the characters lives forever. This book is classified under the realistic-fiction category. I would recommend this book, because unlike most books it is funny. I also think it gives you a good perspective of a kid that is picked on. One of the reasons he is picked on is that his family is so weird. I think that 10-15 years old would be the range of readers that would most enjoy this book.
