Karla writes the following about Number the Stars :
this book was great it made me want to read and know what was happing next. It was about this ten-year-old girl, Annemarie, who has a frend Ellen that is Jewish. The German soldiers have taken over Denmark and are capturing. When The Germans find out that the Rosens are Jewish they start looking for them, and the Johansens try to help them. The Johansens take Ellen and pretend that she's their daughter, when a soldier comes in, and Peter takes Mr. and Mrs. Rosens and hids them. In the next couple of days they go up to Annemaries uncle, Uncle Henrik, and there Uncle Henrik and Mama are planning a "funeral" as a disguise to help the Rosens excape to Sweden. They accomplish getting the Rosens over to Sweden. Before they left Ellen promised Annemarie she would come back. Two years Later Annemarie went in her room and found Ellens necklace and vowed to wear in until Ellens return.
