Caribou16 writes the following about 'Salem's Lot :
'Salem's Lot is my second favorite King novel and it is the best vampire novel. The pacing is wonderfull; some may find it slow, but I liken it to the slow crawl up the first hill on a roller coaster before the sudden drop. The descriptions of the townspeople and eaches little personal history help make the entire story more beliveable...however as I did not grow up in a small New England town, I may be wrong.

Ben Mears is the perfect protagonist for a vampire story. He posseses more traits of Johny Smith from the Dead Zone than say a Jack Torrence or a Stu Redman. That is more intelectual then physicly imposing.

Kurt Barlow as the vampire is one of the more frightening depictions of an undead creature. In my opinion, Vampires who are super strong and super fast and super vicious and constantly attack and chase make for a boring vampire. The cold calculating efficient vampire reigns supreme over the mindless killing machine.
