Dan Palmarella writes the following about Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry :

The main character in this book is Cassie. She has three brothers (Stacey, Christopher-John, and Little Man). The book takes place in Mississippi in 1933.
In this book, Cassie, her family, and friends are being treated bacly by white people because they are black. Cassies family is trying as hard as they can to get money so they can survive on their farm.
At the end of the book some white people beat up the Cassies friend TJ just because TJ had robbed a store. Cassie gets really mad if white people treat her bad and sometimes she gets into troube because of it.
