Fred writes the following about M.C. Higgins :
MC HIGGINS THE GREAT CRITIQUE By: Ryan I read the book M.C. Higgins the Great. It was a historical fiction about an African-American boy who meets the ?dude? who has a tape recorder. M.C gets him to tape his mom singing in an attempt to make her famous. He also goes on many other adventures in fourteen long chapters. He meets other people and ?witchy folks?, and he secretly is one of the witchy folk?s friends. The author of M.C. Higgins the Great is Virginia Hamilton. Hamilton was the author of a lot of award winning books like The House of Dies Drear and The Planet of Junior Brown. Hamilton recently died in February 19, 2002 in Dayton, Ohio ?This is one of those rare books which draws the reader in with the first paragraph and keeps him or her turning the pages until the end.? ?Publisher Weekly?. This quote, witch is on the back of the book, surprised me because I was not a big fan of the book at all. On the first paragraph I was confused, and trust me I was not wanting to keep turning the page until the end. I did not like M.C. Higgins the Great. It was hard for me to follow the story line and I could not relate to the characters. Also what I did get out of the story line did not interest me that much. I would recommend this book to people if they like books about the south in the past. Other wise I would not recommend this book to you
