Jordan writes the following about Hatchet :
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to crash a plane and live. Even if you happened to live, you have to survive in the wilderness alone. Well in the book "Hatchet" by Gary Paulson, Brian Robeson has to stay alone in the wilderness from a plane crash. Because he is from the city, he has to make changes to stay alive.
The first challenge Brian has to overcome is food. Instead of going to the store, he has tro find a weapon and hunt for for his own food. Another challenge is a mind frame challenge, Brian is from the city and there are people all around. In the wilderness you're all alone, no one to talk to just memories. Those challenges mad it hard for Brian to want to stay alive. Those were some examples of obstacles Brian had to overcome.
Brian's character changed dramatically from the beginning to the end. It seemed like when he left the city, he thought the world revolved around him. When he found he was stranded, he was scared because he wasn't used to doing everything himself. After being in the wilderness for a while, he knew he had become stronger which he called reborn. At the beginning he was sad and wanted to die because he felt he was going to die anyway. At the end he was glad he was alive because he knew a lot of things he never knew before.
As you can see, Brian made a great deal of changing. He was no longer at home. He had to rely on himself. I would recommend this book to everyone. It really is a great book. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
