Imagine that you lived on a cattle ranch where you had a dog that protected you from any hidden danger. Well, in Hank the Cowdog: The Case of the One-Eyed killer stud Horse by John R. Erickson, Hank is a cowdog on a cattle ranch. He thrives to protect the ranch and his family.
In one part of the book, Hank hears his owner's cousins screaming. He goes to see what they are screaming about, and sees that the his owner's cousins are screaming because there is a rattle snake and it is scaring them. Hank then barks at the snake and scares it away.
In another part of the book, the One-Eyed stud killer Horse is chasing the owner's cousins and trying to hurt them. Hank then goes and barks at the horse and tries to scare him away, but he doesn't. Hank is then kicked by the horse and knocked out.
Hank then awakes and sees that his leg is cracked in half, and sees his owner standing over him with a shotgun. The owner shots the shotgun off in to the air and scares away the killer horse. Hank is then brought to the veterarian and gets medical attention. This book just goes to show how good of a relationship a dog and it's owner can have.
