The House of the Scorpion
Could you imagine living some of your childhood in a house in the poppy fields and to know only one person? This happens to Matt until one day some kids come to Matt?s window. Celia, the one person Matt knows, tells him to stay away from the window when people are there. But Matt was so excited he looks at the kid, and the kids look back at him. Matt did not know what to say, so he says nothing.
The next day they came back. Matt breaks the window and jumps out. Glass is on the floor. Of course Matt did not know any better because he had lived in a safe house his whole life. Matt did not know what pain felt like until that day. That day the kid carried Matt to the big house Celia often talks about. There, Matt found he was a clone, born from a cow. Matt thinks being a clone you can see differently than other people, but he is not any different from anybody else. No one would go near him in that part of the house where he was held.
Only one person came to visit Matt to be pleasant, and her name was Maria. Her friend, Tom, hated Matt. Matt was stuck in the worst position ever for about 6 months until he met El Patron. Then Matt?s life changed a lot from the worst to the best. Matt got fed excellent food. He had his own apartment with Celia and Matt got a high-class teacher. He also got his own bodyguard, named Tam Lin, who helped Matt learn about nature, like how to rock climb.
Matt finally understood El Patron did not hate him, but El Patron wanted him for spare parts. Celia made Matt unstable, so El Patron couldn?t use any of Matt organs. You will have to read the book to find out what happened after that.
