Brittany writes the following about She Said Yes :
There are many books that are very touching, but of the many books I have read, this is one of the most saddest and yet happiest of them. This story is called She Said Yes and is written by Misty Bernall. The charactor this story is based on is Cassie Bernall and she like any other person wanted to fit in, but got into a bad crowd by trying to do so. I think it is very intriguing that her life had changed so drastically during the last years of her life.
Cassie was very troubled in the early years of her life. At fifteen she was doing drugs and also had bad friends. They would write notes back and forth, until her parents saw them lying in her room, read them, and made the wise decision of intervening. All of this would finally pay off, or more like the opposite, not pay off at all...
It was a normal school day in Littleton, Colorado when Cassie(a junior), and her brother headed off for a school day that they would remember forever. Cassie was in the library when one of her classmates walked in. He had a gun and as you might have guessed, shot at Cassie, but not before asking her if she believed in God. This answer could have saved her life, but she chose the courageous and smart answer, "Yes." It would be hard to imagine one of my family members dying like this, but I would feel better knowing that she was very brave in saying yes to a question like that.
At the end of the story, after going to a camp that totally changed her and becoming way more religious, and also being able to say yes to a question and having her life taken away from her because of that question, her parents have accepted her death. They are also very proud of her for standing up for her religion and choosing the best answer possible. Even though they know that she is OK now, it still has to be painful to think about what happened at Columbine High School on April 20th, 1999.
What Cassie did for us, for the world, will be remembered forever. She is truly a hero in everyone's heart, right now and back when She Said Yes.
