Kaitlyn writes the following about She Said Yes :
Everyone says that they're brave for one reason or another. It could be to impress your friends or your family, or maybe, you say it so everyone won't think that you are a chicken. When a time coems, however, taht you really have to be brave, like Cassie Bernall in the book SHE SAID YES, would you be willing to put your life on the line for your beliefs? Even if saying yes to your faith got you killed? I really believe that you should stand up for your beliefs even if someone teases you, or at worst, you get into a situation where you could be killed, just like Cassie.
Cassie Bernall was just a normal teenage girl living in Littleton, Colorado, Come to think of it, Cassie really wasn't that normal. She didn't believe in God, and she hated her parents and was planning on killing them with the help of one of her "friends". She really didn't make very many good decisions at this time in her life. Cassie was suicidal and very unhappy all of the time, until one day when she met a new friend.
This friend helped Cassie go through a major transformation in her life. She had Cassie go to chruch and youth group with her, and helped her to become more involved with their school, Columbine. SHe also took Cassie on many camping trips and also to sumer camp with her. This was the first time in many years that Cassie's parents felt that they could trust their daughter with making healthy decisions with her life.
As the days went on, things got better and better for Cassie. Her grades started to go up in all of her classes. SHe had also made new friends that she would hang out with after school and on the weekends when she didn't have church retreats. Mr. and Mrs. Bernall couldn't believe what a tremendous change their daughter had gone through.
On the morning of April 20th, 1998, Cassie went to school as if it were going to be a normal day of fun with friends and classes. A little while into the day, Cassie decided that she wanted to go to the library and study. That's when it happend.
Two boys from Columbine came into the library with guns and started shooting at some of their classmates. One of the boys came up and pointed the gun at Cassie's head. He asked her, "Do you belive in God?" Cassie answered yes to the question and was killed for her beliefs, and also, because of her bravery.
Cassie Bernall became a hero the day she confessed her faith and was murdered because of it. We all may be brave and courageous, but I don't think that you could get any more brave or courageous than Cassie did. I really admire her and her decision. I hope that one day I could stand up for something the way that she did, only not get killed for it!
