Chloe writes the following about The Outsiders :
This book was a little better than average. I didn't really like Ponyboy, because he seems like a coward most of the time. If anyone, Johnny should've been the main character. He really had a rough life, and it would've been much more interesting to hear it from his point of view. Sodapop was also a cool character; but they didn't talk about him much.
I really disagree with anyone who thinks this book is for people in fifth grade and under. There is a lot of violence and it also suggests that Dally does some very dirty things. Even someone in sixth grade should think twice before picking this book up. However, it's too short for someone with an average seventh reading level and up.
A nice moral in the story is to live in the moment. Ponyboy does so by
watching sunsets. The book also encourages people to try to avoid violence.
