nterplanetary intrigue ivolving 3 Utopian (one non human) societies on the Planet Paradise.
Just finished 3 Passports to Paradise, by R.A. Leigh and enjoyed it very much. Stumbled on it by accident since it's from a new publisher,
Spectrutek.com andat least for the moment, does not seem to be in too many bookstores. Anyway, the publisher claims to produce a line of books that are "not overly bleak or overly technical" and 3P2P certainly fills the bill. It's a fun adventurous read, with good characterizations (nice thesedays!) and plot. I wouldn't call it hard-sf but it would be misleading to say it was soft sf too. The story revolves around 3 different utopian societies (one New Age people, one genetically enhanced half-animal like, and the third a sort of Old earth ideal), mixing it up with the Spectrutek corporation, a powerful group that helped them to migrate to the planet Paradise, left them alone for 100 years (each separated from the rest) but now is calling the leaders together. It's an adventure as well as a double murder mystery (and a cute surprise at the end).
