J. J. Richards writes the following about The Magic of Oz :
In which Old Ruggedo, the Ex-Nome King and Kiki Aru, a Hyup boy discover a magical transformation word and plot to conquer Oz with the help of Forest Beasts! ************************************************************ It is Ozma's birthday again, so Dorothy, the Wizard, the Cowardly Lion, and the Hungry Tiger go to the Forest of Gugu to get monkeys for a surprise. There they find out that two Li-Mon-Eags (heads of lions, wings of eagles, bodies of monkeys and tails of wild asses with knobs of gold at the end of them) are trying to get a revolt stated! It is Kiki Aru and Ruggedo transformed! Cap'n Bill and Trot and glued to an island while getting Ozma's gift and only the Wizard of Oz could save them! So Bungle the Glass Cat races to the Emerald City, only to find that the Wizard isn't there! Can she reach Gugu Forest in time? In the end, Ruggedo must forget his wickedness and live in Oz! But what about Kiki? What happened in between? Read and find out!

THE MAGIC OF OZ is the 13th Oz book, published in 1919 by the Reilly and Lee Co. It is the first Oz book to be published by Reilly and Lee instead of Reilly and Britton. Mr. Baum died before it was in print and newspapers and critics knew it would be the last Oz book...but was it? If you read my review for THE TIN-WOODMAN OF OZ, I said there were TWO more Oz books written in case Baum died. Yes, THE MAGIC OF OZ and GLINDA OF OZ! People say Baum died before he finished GLINDA OF OZ, but I believe it is NOT TRUE! For he did finish it! This is a good story, but again, the next and final Oz book by L. Frank Baum is even better!
