James writes the following about The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe :
|
This story is about four children called Peter, Edmund, Susan and Lucy who are sent away from London during the German air-raids of World War II. They go to an old Professor's house (actually Diggory from THE MAGICIAN'S NEPHEW.) Lucy walks through a wardrobe into the land of Narnia. But Jadis (now called the White Witch) had returned and enchanted the land so it was winter all year and never Christmas. Befriending a Faun named Tumnus, she returns back to England but her sister and brothers don't believe her. Finally, they all tumble through the wardrobe and make friends with Mr. and Mrs. Beaver. They find Tumnus has been kidnapped by the White Witch because he had been 'fraternised' with humans, such as Lucy. Edmund runs away as a traitor and joins the White Witch, and even when he turns back to their side and Aslan returns to Narnia at its darkest hour, can they still defeat the Witch?
: Spoiler follows in which the end of the story is revealed...
THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE is the best Narnia story and easily the most popular one in the series. The four children become the Kings and Queens of Narnia at the end of the story.
