joe writes the following about Countdown :
Elliot is a boy who lives in Montana. Vincent is a boy who lives in Kenya, Africa and is a Massai herder. They have no idea what's in store for them. Elliot has always wanted to become an astronaut, but his dad wants him to stay a rancher. NASA is having a drawing for a junior astronaut and Elliot wins. He overcomes many challenges in training a finally gets into space. Meanwhile Vincent in Kenya in is facing many challenges too. His dad wants him to become a Massai warrior, Sambeke an infirmary doctor says the Massai must stop killing if they are to survive. Vincent doesn't know which way to go. The white man's way or the Massai way. Up in space, Elliot and Vincent end up meeting over the radio. They start talking everyday and don't agree with each other. The space shuttle ends up having a problem. It has to land in Africa because the weather is bad in North America. NASA wants Vincent to meet Elliot and his dad agrees. Elliot lands safely and meets Vincent. They decide that maybe they're not that different after all, so they hug and hold hands. After that they realized that all people have something in common. Both of them overcame the difference in their cultures, and their dads let them do what they wanted. I suggest you read this book because it shows how much people can change.
