A mystery in Oz!
In which Ozma is kidnapped and all the magical Oz treasures gone too! Dorothy, the Wizard, Toto, the Cowardly Lion, Trot, Betsy, Hank, the Saw-Horse,Button-Bright, Scraps, and many more Oz Citizens search for Princess Ozma! They meet the Thists in the City of Thi, the stong men in the City of Herku, and bump into the Merry-Go-Round Mountains! But Cayke the Cookie Cook, a giant Frogman, a Lavender Bear from Bear Center, and a little pink bear are searching for the evil Ugu the Shoemaker who has stolen Cayke's diamond studded gold dishpan which bakes marvelous cookies! It has magic powers too! And it will be a long time until Glinda the Good gathers enough magical herbs to make more magic potions! What will happen? Will the Nome King's magic belt save the day? Or not?
This is another one of my favorite Baum Oz books! Of course Ugu the Shoemaker is a horribe villain, kidnapping Ozma and all and the ending is quite surprising! This book, the 11th Oz book was published in 1917 by the Reilly and Britton Co. and of course like most Oz books after 1913 had 12 colored plates and the black-and-white illustrations.
L. Frank Baum was really sick when he wrote this, but the story is wonderful and is one of Baum's best!
