Have you ever been introduced to someone that you did not immediately like simply because of their hair color or accent or what they believed to be the truth? Ben Mikaelsen does a superb job in Countdown of showing how utterly ridiculous it is to be prejudice.
Vincent and Eliot are from different parts of the world, have different beliefs and customs, eat different foods, and have different spiritual beliefs. They meet each other over a ham radio and have regular correspondence. Through the course of their conversations they grow to misunderstand and dislike each other. However, fate brings them face to face and they eventually realize how similarily uninformed and foolish their opinions of each other were.
Vincent and Eliot become friends in spite of all their differences. This book is well-written and well-researched and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in comparing and contrasting American culture and African culture.
