Because of Winn-Dixie
Kate DiCamillo

I chose to read and review Because of Winn-Dixie because this is the best book in this generation. It is about a community that suddenly comes together and unites because of a girl and her dog. The main characters are India Opal Buloni, a young little girl who just moved from a town named Watts to another named Naomi in the state of Florida, her father and Winn-Dixie, a lovable dog she finds in the Winn-Dixie market one day.
The relationship of this lovable dog and this little girl began when her father sent Opal to the Winn-Dixie market to get some groceries. Opal then saw a little stray dog who was creating a big mess and a lot of chaos in the store. She felt pity on that little dog. Instead of doing the first thing a person should do when it sees something like that which is report the head of the store about it and send it to the pound, she claimed it as her own dog and named it the first name that she could think of: Winn-Dixie, of course.
Because of the affection and love little Winn-Dixie showed to everyone in the community, newcomer Opal has made new friends with everyone from the town librarian to even the town bullies. Even her father loved Winn-Dixie because they spent a lot of time together. Instead of working his ways as a preacher, he became distracted and started to love Winn-Dixie as much as Opal did.
I had the same favorite character as Lauren Ferrando: Gloria Dump. She was an old lady who lives on her own in her house. She told Opal good things in life too. The people think because she was all alone, she would be as mean as a witch but no! She was actually very kind and a very well-spoken lady.
Because of Winn-Dixie was the best book I ever read! This taught me all about friendship. I could actually picture Winn-Dixie and Opal together and every conversation I would picture in my brain. The entire community of Naomi was there. I felt like I was in the story myself.
Please read this book! I never put this down. I finished it in two weeks. The entire time, my mom was asking me to put it down. I read it to myself before I sleep. The story refreshed my soul. Kate DiCamillo has a great imagination. I named my two puppies Winn and Dixie because they act just like Winn-Dixie in the book. You won't waste money or put this book down until you finish it!
