Karen Dianne Dixon writes the following about Because of Winn-Dixie (Newbery Honor Book, 2001) :
This book is about a girl named Opal when she was a little girl her mom left her and her dad. They just started a new life in Wyoming one day she has to go to the grocery store to get a box of macaroni and cheese, and some tomatoes this dog is in there and he messes up the store they were about to call the dog pound when she lied and said that is was her dog she called it Winn-Dixie that’s also the name of the store. Her father let her keep the dog she was so happy she took good care of the dog but the dog is scared of thunder and lighting. I recommend this book to every one because this book can show you how a dog can change a child’s life specially when it lonely.
