A Patchwork Girl is brought to life by a crooked Magician named Dr. Pipt, and by mistake, our new friend Ojo's Unk Nunkie and Dr. Pipt's wife Margalot are turned to statue by the Liquid of Petrification. So Ojo, with the Patchwork Girl and new characters the Woozy and the Glass Cat go searching for the ingredients to undo the Liquid of Petrification. Ojo meets up with many adventures, rescued by the Shaggy Man from the Man-eating plants, arrested by Ozma and is finally assisted by Dorothy and the Scarecrow, who know the Land well. Will they succeed in getting everything or not?
THE PATCHWORK GIRL OF OZ was published in 1913 and was the first "long" book done by Baum. Many say that there isn't much to this book, as Ojo does not succeed, as the TinWoodman won't give him the wing of a butterfly, and then the Wizard of Oz just undoes the Petrification spell himself. I do not agree, as we meet up with many new and interesting civilizations, such as the Hoppers and Horners, and the giant Mr. Yoop, who's wife we later meet in THE TIN WOODMAN OF OZ.
There are no plates in this book, but many coloured pictures, which are really good. One of the best books of all about Oz.
