Chipper writes the following about The Cay :
The Cay is a story about a boy named Phillip who is stranded on a deserted island when the ship he is traveling on is sunk by a torpedo during World War II. While abandoning ship, Phillip was struck on the head. When he comes to he is on a raft with a cat and an old black man named Timothy. As a resolt of his injury Phillip goes blind and has to rely on Timothy. Eventually they land on a small island known as a cay. Here they struggle to survive while waiting for rescue. This story is similar to Robison Crusoe. I gave this book a high rating because there are several good plots. First, is the adventure as the castaways strugle to survive. Second, Phillip must learn to deal with his blindness. Third, he must come to understand Timothy, someone who is much different. I liked how Phillip's blindness did not keep him from finally being able to see that Timothy was a good man. The only thing I would do to improve this book would be to show more of what Timothy was thinking especially when Phillip was mean to him. I would highly recomend this book to anyone.
