Her Full name is Maximum Ride. She’s 98% human, 2% bird. And the girl can fly. James Patterson’s newest book blockbuster hit for teens, Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment hit the top ten teen’s book award in 2007. Being the first book in the trilogy, it was James Patterson’s experimentation to see what the world would have to say about the genetically alternated teens.
The book stars 6 bright children, who are ordinary in every way…except they have wings. They are on the run from the evil ‘erasers’ or werewolves, who want to destroy them. Led by the Snarky Max, who is the leader of the ‘flock’, you will go everywhere from Death Valley California to The Sewer tunnels of New York. “Strap yourselves in, because the ride starts out fast, and only gets faster.” Claims the New York Times. Within the first 10 pages you are entering their world, filled with fights to the death, sarcasm, and awkward teen moments.
The book was fast paced and action packed, with few breaks in between. Though the book has good aspects, the fact that the children are unable to trust anyone, really made me a little worried. They are extremely paranoid when it comes to doctors, or adults, and can’t even trust each other to a point.
The characters are well developed, and very realistic, from the sarcastic kick-butt Max to angelic Angel.
All around a pretty good plot line and everything. But there is a few kinks that could be easily worked out.
A lot of franchising has been passed around recently, such as the t-shirts being sold on Fang’s blog, and the newly announced movie that is suspected to come out sometime in 2010. A lot of rumors have been going around about who is directing it, although it has been announced that Avi Arad will be the director, “It will be a good big screen franchise.” And we can only trust to know what he is doing; after all, he directed big blockbusters such as Spiderman, X-Men, and Iron Man. So make sure to keep your eyes out for Max and her merry band of mutants flying into theatres in 2010!
