Juli <3 writes the following about Summer of Fear :
Summary
In the beginning of the novel summer of fear, Rachel is a teenage girl, who is very satisfied with her life. She has steady boyfriend, parents whom she is close to, two brothers, and a cute, sweet, loving dog named trickle. When Julia comes, everything changes.

Rachel’s aunt and uncle died in an “accidental” car crash, in which they lost control of the steering and drove off the edge or a large cliff. Soon enough Julia arrives at Rachel’s house. When Rachel meets Julia she seems a bit odd, she looks older than 17, and has opaque eyes. She also doesn’t seem to care that her parents are dead.

During the time that Julia stayed there, very strange things started to happen. Peter fell in love with Julia extremely quick. Trickle attacked Julia for no apparent reason and a few days later he died. Also, Rachel made a dress that didn’t go with her looks or hair but looked fantastic on Julia. Then, on top of everything else, Mike, Rachel’s boyfriend left her for Julia! Plus, Rachel found a melted wax figure of what seemed to be a face with trickle’s hairs embedded into it.

After talking to professor Jarvis, Rachel is positive that Julia is a witch. Rachel tries to warn her parents but everyone seems mesmerized by Julia. As soon as Julia finds out that Rachel has professor Jarvis to help back up her accusations of her being a witch she gives professor Jarvis a heart attack. Now, Rachel must prove Julia’s evil by herself.

While researching witchcraft Rachel discovers that a witch cannot be photographed because they will not show up in the picture, after finding this out, Rachel convinces her mother to use Julia as a model for her photography.

Rachel’s mother suggests that she, Rachel, and Julia should take a trip down to the city to bond. But Rachel refuses because she cannot stand Julia. The next day, Julia claims that she is sick and stays home, so neither her, nor Rachel have gone to the city with Rachel’s mom. Rachel decides to develop the film by herself, but, she discovers Julia destroying the film. While in the dark room, Julia tells Rachel that she is indeed a witch, but her name is not Julia, it’s Sara! She also tells her how her mother was supposed to drive off the cliff just like Julia, and her parents. Hearing this Rachel runs out of the dark room, padlocks it, and runs to Mike. Screaming, she tells him to drive to the highway where her mother is driving. About halfway there mike runs out of gas. Running the rest of the way Julia screams “will we get there in time?” Just like in her dreams. Finally, a spiraling car comes at Rachel but is able to stop right before it hits her, in the driver’s seat, is her mom. Rachel’s mother would have died if it weren’t for her love of Rachel.
