Percy Jackson's seventh-grade school year has been relaxing for a change. He's been able to live with his mom in New York City, and hasn't been attacked by monsters all year. That all changes on the last day of school, when an innocent dodgeball game turns into an explosive battle that sends Percy racing back to Camp Half-Blood, the summer camp for kids who are the son/daughter of a mythical god. When he and his friend Annabeth return there, they discover that the tree that has protected the camp has been poisoned, and monsters are free to attack the camp at will. Alarmed by other changes at the camp, and haunted by dreams of his missing friend Grover, Percy and Annabeth set off on a quest to retrieve the Golden Fleece, which is the only thing that can heal the tree and save the camp. In order to reach Grover and the golden fleece, they have to travel across the sea of monsters, known to mortals as the Bermuda Triangle. Along their sea voyage, Percy and his friends are chased by the awakening Kronos and his minions. But are helped by Percy's father Poseidon, as well as the god Hermes. Can the young heroes in training find the golden fleece and rescue Grover before it's too late? Read the book to find out.
I gave the writing in the book a 9, because it is very fast paced and keeps you hooked from beginning to end. I gave the illustration on the book a 7 because the only illustration is on the cover, but does say quite a bit about the book. If I could change one thing about the book, I would have fewer characters, because it gets kind of confusing at times. I now thank you for reading my book review, and hope that you chose to read the book, The Sea of Monsters.
