Hatchet (Gary Paulsen)
The story goes on about thirteen year old Brian who on his way to his fathers care is flying over the Canadian wilderness in a one engine plane then suddenly something goes wrong, the pilot has a heart attack. Hours later Brian awakes to find he’s alone in the middle of the Canadian wilds. With no one to take care of him, Brian armed only with a hatchet must learn to live as his ancestors did…learn to live off the earth.
The book itself is a great way for children to get their imaginations running.the action in book never slows down and Paulsen does a good job of keeping the reader glued to the book for hour.
There is only one main character in the book so the focus is only around one person makin it easier for the young mind to keep up with the story line.
The language in the book is basic but used effectively by Paulsen, after reading Hatchet the kids will be screaming for more luckily there is a whole series from Gary Paulsen so this means that the kids should be busy for a very long time.
