Shelby writes the following about Faded Denim :
The book I read was Faded Denim by Melody Carlson. This book was a great and quick read. It was a fiction book, but it could be so true. I would most definitely recommend this book for others to read, but on the age level of a high school student. I would probably have to rate this book as a 9. I feel that many high school girls could probably relate to this story because of the way that everyone wants to look these days. I like the way that even though this is a fiction book, it talked about a real-life disease that many people have and are suffering with. There is a main character and her name is Emily. In the beginning of the book, Emily is about 13 or 14 years old. When she was younger, she had the perfect body, everyone loved her. As she got older, she had gained some weight, but all her friends didn’t. One day she thought that she had become the “fat girl” that no one liked. Her best friend was Leah, she was tall, skinny, and gorgeous. She wanted to be just like her but she didn’t have the ‘push’ to loose the weight. Leah had wanted to become a professional model, and Emily wanted nothing to do with it. They went to a Christian camp before the modeling camp. Emily really decided that she needed to loose the weight that she had put on. The only way that she could do it was one way that everyone told her not to do. As she is doing this, she is realizing what it is doing to her and the people around her. This is a very serious problem that she has to deal with as well as Leah doing something that she shouldn’t have done either. This is a great book for any girl to read especially if they ever feel like the ‘odd girl.’ There are a series of books that are by the same author that I am going to read after this one. This was a great book and I would recommend it to any girl.
