Pictures of Hollis Woods is a 166-page realistic fiction book by Patricia Reilly Giff. The main character of the story is Hollis Woods. She is a young girl that moves around to different foster homes. The antagonist of the story is the mean mustard lady who tries to take Hollis away from her foster parent, Josie. The setting is in present time at Josie’s house, and at Steven’s house in the summer. An interesting hook is that each chapter is a different story. One of them is about Hollis in present time living with Josie at her house. The other story that it jumps to is last summer at Steven’s house. What’s interesting about the story is that it moves back and forth from the two situations and then at the end of the story they both connect. I would give this book a 6 out of 10 because it is a cute story but it can get boring at parts. It doesn’t always keep you interested. What I would change about the story is that I wouldn’t make Josie so old because the way she was described at the beginning makes her seem younger than she really is.
