The Making of the Micro: A History of the Computer by Christopher Evans is a great book because it details the long history of computing tools from abacuses to the computers we use today. It is a surprisingly envolving book because it is very well writtern and full of interesting facts. It tells about the first computers which were simply interlocking gears much like a Meccano set. It also tells what the first electronic computers could do. It shows how transistors changed the way computers were built. It details how silicon chips are used to achieve a large program in a small amount of space. I reccommend this book to anyone who programs computers, or is interested in computers and how the work.
