The book I read was Stick Figure by Lori Gottlieb. This was a great non-fiction book and I would defiantly recommend this book for others to read. I would rate this book about a 9 because I liked that it taught about a real life disease that many people do have and actually some people die. Lori, the author, is a 12 year old girl that is more worried about how much she weighs than her friends and school. Her parents were very involved but not involved in her life. Her mother was almost like a child herself and her father was one that did not show his emotions very well. Her mother absolutely loved to diet. Since Lori worried about her weight so much, she decided she would try to diet like her mother. When Lori’s parents realized her dieting habits, they got really worried about her. They would always yell at Lori and tell her that she needed to start eating, even though her mom didn’t. She wanted to follow her mom’s footsteps. Lori knew that she couldn’t weigh a certain amount so she would count how many calories was in each food and in one chapter it said that she only ate like 5 beans, 7 carrots, and 4 bites of meat. She was to worried about it. Her parents decided that she needed to go visit a psychiatrists about her eating habits. When Lori got there, he asked her questions about her, he actually cared about her feelings. He then told her that she had anorexia nervosa, which is a serious disease. This book is her diary during this difficult time in her life. I think that all teenage girls should read this book. It has opened my eyes to what people go through that have this disease.
