LK writes the following about Kavik, the wolf dog :
Kavik the wolf dog is a nice story. It is better for grades 3-5. It is pretty easy to understand. There are quite alot of figures of speech. So the plot is:
It starts out how Charlie One Eye slaps and hits Kavik. Kavik is a part malamute and part wolf. Charlie wanted to have Kavik as the lead dog in his dog derby team and after training him harshly, they win. Mr.Hunter, a rich businessman sees Kavik and buys him for 2,000. While Smiley Johnson a pilot flies in the storm, the plane crashes. Smiley Johnson dies but Kavik is stuck in the iron cage in the cold for days with no food or water. Basically, this book has a theme statement: You can do anything you have to. Kavik really liked staying with Andy Evans a 15 year old boy. When Hunter takes Kavik, because Kavik loved the Evans family, he traveled more than 2,000 miles back to their house. He got hurt, but he still did what he had to do:return to his real family. There are very few pictures.
