Personally I thought the book was sort of childish. Then again maybe it was written for people younger than myself. However, I thought it wasn't a very strong book. It didn't hold my attention throughout the whole of it. Occasionally something would hold my attention but rarely. It is very childish being that Floss (short for Flora), still plays with cuddly toys, and dolls. I don't think it ever mentions her age, but it does say that her friends at school would make fun of her for having stuffed animals. It seems to me that Floss hasn't quite matured up to her age yet, making it hard for me to relate or understand her resoning in this book. I don't really know if I'd recommend this book to anyone in my grade, but possibly for others in grades lower than me. One thing that I found particularly interesting is all of the British words in this book. I being from America would always look back in the Glossary (back of the book) to see what the words I didn't know meant. I also found the relationship between Floss and her dad to be heart-warming at times. However sometimes I thought the emotional parts (between Floss and her dad) were a bit weak. I however, loved the "secret" friendship between Susan and Floss towards the middle of the book. The illustrations were also very puerile and vague. They made the book all the more naive.
Overall I thought this book was fairly interesting, but I'd only give it a 4.8 out of 10. Mostly because it wasn't that interesting. Sorry to anyone who likes this or was planning on reading it. I hope this doesn't change your mind(s).
Thanks
